Apple Has Temporarily Stopped Developing AR/VR Headsets, Team Disbanded in May [Updated]

Update: As noted by Jeremy Horwitz, more details are now available on DigiTimes Taiwan, which reports that Apple has "temporarily stopped developing AR/VR headsets." The report claims the team working on them was disbanded in May and reassigned to other product developments. Original story below.

Apple has reportedly "terminated" development of its widely rumored augmented reality glasses project, according to DigiTimes.

MacRumors concept of Apple Glasses

Multiple sources have claimed that Apple plans to release augmented reality glasses as early as 2020, including well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and CNET, so the DigiTimes report if accurate reflects a cancellation of a major hardware project on Apple's roadmap.

DigiTimes preliminary headline

DigiTimes has a mixed track record in relation to reporting on Apple's future plans, but it appears to be citing another report in this case. However, the DigiTimes story is currently paywalled behind its "Before Going to Press" section, so we'll have to wait for specific details to be made public.

Kuo said Apple's glasses would be marketed as an iPhone accessory and primarily take a display role while wirelessly offloading computing, networking, and positioning to the iPhone. He believed mass production could begin at some point between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the second quarter of 2020.

In November 2017, Gurman reported that Apple's headset would run a custom iOS-based operating system dubbed "rOS" for "reality operating system." At the time, he said Apple had not finalized how users would control the headset, but possibilities included touchscreens, Siri voice activation, and head gestures.

In April 2018, CNET said Apple was developing an augmented reality headset that features an 8K display for each eye and would be untethered from either a computer or a smartphone. The report claimed the headset would instead connect to a "dedicated box" using high-speed short-range 60GHz WiGig technology. Gurman and other sources previously reported that Apple was working on several different wearable augmented reality prototypes under the umbrella code name of "T288," so it is still possible that a product of some kind could be released.

Apple has been exploring virtual reality and augmented reality technologies for more than 10 years based on patent filings. The company is also rumored to have a secretive research unit comprising hundreds of employees working on AR and VR, exploring ways the technologies could be used in future Apple products.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has talked up the prospect of augmented reality several times, saying he views AR as "profound" because the technology "amplifies human performance instead of isolating humans."

How to Reset or Force Restart Your Apple Watch

There are a number of things you can try if your Apple Watch stops responding for whatever reason. This article outlines your options.

The first and most straightforward solution is to reset your Apple Watch, which is basically a way of turning it off and on again. This is useful if, say, an app has crashed and a standard force quit doesn't work, or if the live data transfer between your iPhone and Apple Watch seems inconsistent.

Note that you can't restart an Apple Watch if it is charging, so undock it first before attempting the following steps.

How to Restart an Apple Watch

Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider on the screen.

Drag the Power Off slider with your finger.

Once your Apple Watch has turned off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.

If that didn't solve your issue, you can try a force restart on your Apple Watch. Note that this should only be used as a last resort. And whatever you do, don't perform a force restart if your Apple Watch is in the middle of an OS update.

How to Force Restart an Apple Watch

Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds.

Release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.
What to Do if You Forget Your Passcode

If you forget your Apple Watch passcode, you'll need to erase the device and then restore from a backup. You can perform this action by launching the Watch app on your paired iPhone: tap the My Watch tab if it's not already selected, tap General -> Reset, then select Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings .

Alternatively, you can start the erase and restore process on your Apple Watch by connecting the device to its charger and following these steps.

Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off screen.

Hard press the Power Off slider and then let go.

Tap Erase all content and settings.

You'll be asked to set up your Apple Watch again when the process ends. When you do, be sure to restore from a backup.

iOS 12.3, tvOS 12.3 Betas Introduce Apple’s Revamped TV App

Earlier today, Apple officially seeded the first developer betas of both iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3.

While the new pieces of software are minor in scale in the grand scheme of things, it turns out that they are not completely without their new additions. Specifically, both developer betas introduce the first vision of Apple’s new and revamped TV app, which the company unveiled earlier this month.

The new TV app is designed to be the one-stop-shop for Apple’s video efforts, both in original content with the future release of Apple TV+, but as well as purchased content through iTunes and third-party subscription services like Starz and HBO. With a more important role in Apple’s services, Apple saw fit to revamp and improve the overall TV app. Today’s developer betas show that incoming change.

The new TV app will still start with the “Watch Now” section. This area is meant to show you what you’ve been watching, and let you keep tabs on any series you’re currently making your way through. It will show the next episode to watch from any services tied to it, as well as suggest new movies and shows to watch based on advanced machine learning features baked into the “For You” feature.

There is even a dedicated section for Kids in the revamped app, which will make it easier for parents to keep tabs on the content their kids are watching, as well as find new shows and films.

The new Apple TV also includes “Channels”. This is a way for users to quickly subscribe to third-party services like HBO, Starz, and others, and access that content from within the app directly. The beta seeds of both iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3 both offer support for Channels now, and you can even sign up for free trials of some services if you’re so inclined.

While this is a solid start, it’s still missing one giant feature: Apple TV+, which Apple also announced this month. That is the company’s big leap into original content, both in film and tv series. Once that subscription service launches later this year, the new TV app will also house that feature as well.
Our Take

The new, revamped TV app is pretty great looking, and it should serve its purpose well once it launches to the public later this year. Personally, these changes are all well and good, but I’m looking forward to Apple TV+ getting added to the mix.
We Want To Hear From You

What do you think of the new design and Channels?

6 Tips to Avoid Data Loss After Formatting Hard Drive 2019

6 Tips to Avoid Data Loss After Formatting Hard Drive

The MBR partition is the older method of partitioning. As compared to MBR, GPT can support bigger memory partitions to the size of 2TB, MBR does not have this capability to support such a large volume of partitions. Both GPT and MBR can be dynamic and basic partitioning methods. GPT, however, can support more 128 memory partitions as compared to 4 done by MBR.
1. Don’t write data into it

Lost data can only be recovered if it is present in its original condition. If you overwrite any part of the file you want to recover, it will corrupt the file. If you overwrite the contents, it will delete the data you want to recover.
2. Don’t partition the hard drive

If you will partition your hard drive after a format, you may not be able to recover lost data. You can only restore data if it is present in its original location. Partitioning can change the location of data and you will not be able to recover data properly.
3. Don’t re-format it

Avoid formatting the hard driven again after a format. It will make data recovery more difficult.
4. Don’t install the operating system or any program into it

If you wish to recover data after a format, don’t install any operating system. Because once operating system is installed and running, the formatted hard drive will be overwritten and data recovery will not be possible.
5. Don’t try any untrusted unformat software

If you have lost your data due to the format you need to unformat the hard drive as soon as possible. You should choose only efficient and safe software for it. You must trust only that software which will not change the contents of the hard drive. Some software does not recover data and result in its permanent loss.
6. Always backup your drive

The best solution for data loss problems is to create a backup. You can do cloning or mirroring of the hard drive. So, when you lose your data you can easily replace the current hard drive with its replica. You can also store important data on external hard drives and flash drives.

2019 10.5-Inch iPad Air vs. 2017 10.5-Inch iPad Pro

2019 10.5-Inch iPad Air vs. 2017 10.5-Inch iPad Pro

Apple has launched a new 10.5-inch iPad Air that can be viewed as a lower-priced successor to the second-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which has been discontinued. Below, we compare tech specs and features.

Pricing is key, with the new iPad Air starting at $499 with Wi-Fi only and $629 with LTE connectivity in the United States. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro started at $649 with Wi-Fi and $779 with LTE connectivity until it was discontinued. Both have 64GB or 256GB of storage, but the new iPad Air lacks a 512GB option.

Design wise, the iPads have a lot of similarities, including dimensions, thinness, and overall appearance. Both have a Touch ID home button, a headphone jack, and a Lightning connector, but the new iPad Air has only two speakers along the bottom, whereas the 10.5-inch iPad Pro has four speakers.

The new iPad Air is available in Silver, Space Gray, and a newer Gold finish that essentially merges the previously separate Gold and Rose Gold finishes that were available for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Both iPads feature a fully laminated Retina display with a resolution of 2224×1668 pixels and 264 PPI, True Tone, and support for the P3 wide color space, but the new 10.5-inch iPad Air has a 60Hz refresh rate while the 10.5-inch iPad Pro has a so-called ProMotion display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

Processor wise, the new iPad Air sports Apple's A12 Bionic chip compared to a slower A10X Fusion chip in the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. The new iPad Air also has dedicated hardware called the "Neural Engine" that handles artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks, while the 10.5-inch iPad Pro does not.

In terms of battery life, both iPads last up to 10 hours per charge, according to Apple's internal testing.

With its lower price point, the new iPad Air has a lower-end 8-megapixel rear camera, compared to a 12-megapixel sensor on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. The rear camera on the new iPad Air also lacks LED flash, optical image stabilization, and Focus Pixels, but one benefit is that there is no camera bump.

The front FaceTime HD cameras are the same 7-megapixel sensors with Live Photos, Retina Flash, and other identical features on both iPads.

As for connectivity, both iPads have 802.11ac Wi-Fi, but the new iPad Air has Gigabit-class LTE versus the 10.5-inch iPad Pro's theoretically slower LTE Advanced support. The new iPad Air also gets a bump to Bluetooth 5.0 versus Bluetooth 4.2 out of the box for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Both iPads are compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil and the 10.5-inch Smart Keyboard.

Summary

The new iPad Air starts at $150 less than the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and thus has some tradeoffs: two speakers versus four, no ProMotion display, and a lower-end 8-megapixel rear camera with no LED flash or optical image stabilization.

Both iPads have a 10.5-inch Retina display with 264 PPI, headphone jack, Touch ID, Lightning connector, 7-megapixel front camera, up to 10 hours of battery life, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

The new iPad Air has some advantages: faster A12 Bionic chip vs. A10X Fusion, Gigabit-class LTE vs. LTE Advanced, and Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.2.

The new iPad Air can be ordered starting today with in-store availability beginning next week in the United States and many other regions. Also Read:How to Clone Yourself and Other Objects in a Picture Without Photoshop?

How to Make Custom Ringtones for iPhone Using iTunes

How to Make Custom Ringtones for iPhone Using iTunes

On the other hand, if you don't want to use iMyFone TunesMate and you'd rather stick with using iTunes, you can use the method below. Before you follow these steps, make sure that the song you want to convert into a ringtone has been added to your iTunes library.

Step #1 - Open iTunes and, if the song is stored on your iPhone, connect your iPhone now.

Step #2 - Enter your iTunes library and locate the song that you want to use.

Step #3 - Right-click on the song and click on "Get Info".

Step #4 - When the info window has appeared, click on the "Options" tab. Check the boxes "Start Time" and "Stop Time", and set an appropriate 30-40 second time limit.

Note: ideally, your ringtone should be no longer than 40 seconds.

Step #5 - Press the "OK" button and when the window disappears. Open File menu, click on "Convert", then select "Create AAC Version".

Step #6 - Next, right-click on the newly created AAC version of the song and click "Show in Finder". If you're a windows computer user, click on "Show in Windows Explorer".Sponsor ads:Free Registry Cleaners for Windows 10/8/7

Step #7 - When the finder window has shown, click on the M4A file and change the extension to M4R.

Step #8 - A warning will be shown on your screen. Click on "Use .m4r" and a newly created ringtone will be available.

After following these steps and creating the M4R file, you can delete the AAC version from iTunes and remove the time limit that we placed on the original file. All you have to do now is add the M4R file to iTunes as a ringtone and you're ready to go.

Note

We don't recommend using this method as it is clearly significantly more complicated, takes a lot of time, and is simply tedious. Instead, use iMyFone TunesMate and make your life a lot easier.Sponsor ads:

Step 2: Go to File > Library > Organize Library. Then tick the box next to “Consolidate Files” and click OK.

How to Lock Notes on iPhone and iPad 2019

1 How to Set Up Your Notes Password

The password setup can be done in Settings or in the Notes app. You can choose to use a password or your Touch ID. Either way, you have to set up a password first. Make sure your password is one that you can easily remember, but other would not be able to guess easily. You can also lock all your notes, or choose to lock an individual note if you consider it personal. Here's how:
To Set Up Notes Lock in Settings:

Go to Settings and click on Notes.

Tap Password and enter your Password choice

Give a hint that could help you remember your password if you eventually forget it. Tap Done.

To Set Up Lock in Notes:

Open the note you want to lock, tap on the upward arrow icon and select Lock Note.

Enter your password and include a password hint. Tap Done.

What Happens If You Forget the Password?

It is very important that you use a password you can easily remember. This is because, once you forget your password, Apple can't help you. There is no way to recover your old password. If the hint you dropped when creating your password was good enough, it should be able to help you remember.

Once you forget your password, you can't access those notes anymore. However, you can go ahead to create new notes using new passwords if you wish. This can cause some confusion as you will have different notes with different passwords on your phone. You will most likely keep putting in the wrong password till you find the right one when trying to open a note.

At this point, the most you can do is delete those notes you don't have access to anymore.

2 How to Lock A Note with The Password or Touch ID

Once you have set up a password you can lock a note at any time.

Open Notes on your iPhone and tap on an existing note.

tap on the upward arrow icon and select Lock Note.

If available, you can use Touch ID to lock the note.

If you prefer to use a password, tap Enter Password and enter your password to lock the note.

A lock animation will confirm the note has been locked.

3 How to Remove the Lock on a Note

Select the note which you want to remove the lock and enter your password or use Touch ID.

Tap on the upward arrow icon and choose Remove Lock.

Be aware that when you remove the lock on one device, that note is also unlocked on all your devices that share the same Apple ID.

4 How to Change Your Notes Password

Go to Settings, select Notes and then Password.

Tap Change Password.

Put in your old password then the new password. Change your password hint so it relates to your current password. Tap Change Password.

5 How to Reset Your Notes Password

You also have the option of resetting the default password that goes to every new note you create. This is applicable when you set up your notes lock from Settings, not by locking notes individually. If you choose to reset your Notes password, it won't change the password on your old notes for privacy reasons. If you want to change the password on the old notes, you have to go to the note and then put in your old password and the new password. For the general password reset on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch:

Go to Settings, tap on Notes and then Password.

Tap Reset Notes Password.

FaceTime Not Working? Here are 5 Solutions 2019

You might have issues with accessing FaceTime if:

There is no wireless carrier support available in your region, as stated by Apple.

You purchased your Apple device in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and United Arab Emirates, including Dubai.

You are trying to switch from a FaceTime call to a phone call, or an audio FaceTime call.

These are some of the reasons why you may not be able to use FaceTime:
Why you may not be able to use FaceTime:
1. FaceTime isn't switched on

FaceTime may not be activated on your device.

To confirm that it is, go to Settings and tap FaceTime. If it isn't on, tap the toggle to switch to On.
2. You don't have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection

Make sure that your device is properly connected to the Internet with a strong network signal. If you are using a firewall or any security software that restricts Internet access on some levels, this could pose a problem when trying to connect to FaceTime, depending on what type of security software you use.
3. You're signed in with the wrong Apple ID

If you're trying to sign into FaceTime on a device that doesn't have the Apple ID your FaceTime account is associated with, it won't work.

To make sure you are using the right Apple ID, you can check by simply going to Settings, tap on FaceTime and you will see the Apple ID. To check on a Mac, open FaceTime, click Preferences and check the Apple ID. If they don't match, sign out and log in using the Apple ID on your other devices.
4. Your software isn't up-to-date

It is possible that your software isn't up-to-date, and Apple has changed a requirement in the FaceTime app that only works with the latest iOS 11.

To check your software version, go to Settings, click on General and then click on Software Update. If there is a new version, it should be there. If the software issue is not from your end, Apple will quickly notify the problem and fix it, this has happened before.
5. You don't have the right phone number or email address listed

Make sure that both the contact details listed and the one being used to contact you are the same.

To confirm, go to Settings and select FaceTime. You will be shown the contact address connected to your FaceTime account. If it is not correct, edit it.
What do I do if FaceTime is stuck on "Waiting for Activation"?

In the final step of signing into FaceTime, it says 'Wait for Activation'. Sometimes, your device could hang in that wait window without any changes. If your device has been doing that, a simple way to reset it is by switching FaceTime off, and back on.

To switch FaceTime off on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap on FaceTime and tap on the toggle to turn it off. Wait a bit and then turn it back on.

If after checking/trying all these, FaceTime still isn't working, try restarting your device. For your iOS device, hold down the Power button till the slider comes up. Slide it right and it will go off.

For your Mac, click Apply and then Restart.

If you still can't get FaceTime to work on your device, go to the nearest Apple Store so they can take a look at it and figure out what the issue is.Sponsor ads:

How to Put Music on iPod without iTunes 2019

“I synced my iPod to iTunes on my old computer before. But now I want to put music on my iPod from my brother’s iTunes library. Every time I connected and try to synced, it showed ‘The iPod is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?’. But I don’t want to erase my current music on iPod. How to put music on iPod without iTunes? Please help! Thank you.” - Catherine
put music on iPod without iTunes

Why? The reason why Apple sets this limitation is clear: control. They want to make sure that you only have songs that you purchased in their official store.
What Are Limitations of iTunes?

An iPod can be synced to only one iTunes library, or your iPod will be totally erased.

Using the sync function of iTunes, it will cover the existing music on iPod. You will lose all your previous songs.

If it is the first time you try to sync, it wil also erase music and other media files on iPod.

It is not direct process. You need to put songs on iTunes library and use the sync feature to sync songs to iPod.

It only supports specific music/video formats. You need to convert music first.

So how can Catherine put music to iPod without iTunes from her brother's iTunes library? Let's continue and find it out.Sponsor ads:

Factory reset make your phone faster?

Android phones these days are fairly powerful and even the budget devices are fairly decent performers as well. However, you might start noticing the device beginning to lag after a few months and even most Android flagships aren’t immune to this.

We’ve all heard that if our phones slow down we should perform a factory data reset to make the phone faster. This does seem to be a solution you’d find almost every time you search for a way to make your Android device faster.

If you’re stuck wondering whether or not this actually works or is just a simple myth, then we’re here to help. Well, we will answer this question as straightforwardly as possible.

Let’s check out once in for all if a factory reset can actually make your phone faster.
Does a factory reset make the phone faster?

Over a period of time, our devices start slowing down a bit due to the fact that we end up installing a bunch of different apps and services which often bog down the performance of our devices.

Apart from apps and services, there’s also a build-up of cache and unwanted files which take away precious space on the device hence after a few months or a year of using your Android device, you might encounter more lags and stutter when navigation around and opening applications.

Performing a factory data reset helps in completely erasing everything on the device and restoring all the settings and data back to its default.

Doing this does help the device perform a tad better than when it was loaded with apps and software which you might have installed over a period of time.

Factory resetting the device might help improve the performance from its current state; however, it might not necessarily ‘make your phone faster‘ but it would rather help in bringing back similar performance as when you first booted the device.
Should you perform a factory data reset?

Factory resetting your device isn’t just meant to help make the device faster since performing a factory reset can help solve a few other issues you might experience as well.

More often than not, we might end up with a bug caused due to a software update or a system app might completely go bonkers which might not be able to be fixed with a reboot or by clearing the cache. In such cases performing a factory data reset might be the only way to make things work normally once again.

So to answer the question of whether or not to perform a factory data reset, we suggest resetting your device at least once a year to keep things running as smooth as before.

However, if you encounter a major bug, then you might have to perform a factory data reset in any case.

How to Fix iPad on iOS 12 Running Slow 2019

How to Fix iPad on iOS 12 Running Slow 2019
Tip 1. Delete Big Files and Apps

iPad is easy to be flooded with music, movies and games, which leads to iOS 12 ipad running slow. It’s time to manage your iPad now. For music and movies you seldom play, you can upload them to iTunes and iCloud for future download. Don’t forget the games, which not only take up a lot of RAM resources dragging down the responsive speed of your iPad, but also occupy a lot of storage space in your iPad. What about uninstalling the games you are no longer interested in to make your iPad faster?

Tip 2. Turn off Spotlight Search

Spotlight function enables you to get rapid search results. However, this service covers almost all the content in your iPad, some of which is seldom used in search. You can change the search types to relieve iOS 12 iPad sluggish problem. Go to Settings> General> Spotlight Search and deselect the search results you seldom use.

Tip 3. Inactivate Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh service is aimed at invoking app data faster based on the frequency of use and intervals through the day, so that when you open an app, the data has already been synchronized for instant use. However, many apps don’t need to refresh frequently, and this service waste part of the RAM resource. You can inactivate Background App Refresh in Settings> General> Background App Refresh.

Tip 4. Close Unnecessary Running Apps

Too many apps running at the same time can drag down iPad responsive speed, and you can close some apps you don’t need to use any more to speed it up. You can double click the Home button to open the running apps list. Pressing on the session window of the app you want to close and sliding it up until it disappear will close the running app.

Tip 5. Restore iPad to Factory Default Settings

Besides ipad on iOS 12 running slow problem, some users also complain “iOS 12 ruined my iPad!” when the iPad get stuck on “slide to upgrade”. These can all be solved by factory reset. Before this action is taken, uploading files and important data to iCloud and iTunes is strongly suggested. Restoring iPad to factory default settings from Settings> General> Reset> Erase All Content and Settings will make your iPad run fast like a new one. If you lose important files after the factory reset process, you can recover them by referring to iMyFone D-Back data Recovery for iPhone.Sponsor ads:
